The underworld. Mutnovsky volcano

One of the most amazing places in Kamchatka is Mutnovsky Volcano. It is still one of the active volcanoes in Kamchatka. Its activity is mainly manifested by fumarole activity. Once there, you soon cease to understand where you are. Dense puffs of steam, sulfur stench, from which breath is taken. Constant noise - hissing and boiling of boiling masses. Everything gives the impression of a gate to the underworld, where living people have no place ...

Mutnovsky is relatively close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Many lonely tourists come here as part of weekend excursions. Although it is better to stay longer and shoot, in addition to Mutnovsky, also the Gorely volcano and Vilyuchinsky hill. The path to the fumarole field passes through a glacier covered with clay and mud. You won’t be able to leave clean)

In places, very large cracks pass along the glacier. In places, pretty creepy) In principle, the fumaroles do not go for long, gradually gaining height. There are many tourists of all stripes on the trail. They even met a cyclist rushing down the hill. Well it was necessary to stick it in his hands up, then to move down)

The weather was very photogenic. Clouds clung to the top, and when they burst, beautiful light fell on the slopes.

But at the same time it was very wet. Although we say thank you that it was not raining. Kamchatka is like that, it can take a long shower)

Finally fumaroles appeared. The smell of sulfur was felt even below, but here it intensified many times. Puffs of steam flew down the slopes, and the wind hissed. Even from afar it is impressive!

And fumaroles themselves lose any sense of reality. It is very cool. And scary. Cool and scary) Next to such fumaroles, covered with sulfur coating, there are a lot of mud baths, which also boil and let puffs of steam.

The man next to me, it seems the group guide, said that in the beginning of summer there was a small hole in the place of this mud bath with clean water. And now such a boiler. And everything is the same here - changing in a few weeks.

Breathing is unrealistic. Many people pull on mask-scarves, but they do not help much. Such a cloud covers you, and it becomes wet and hot, like in a steam room. Only the stink of sulfur is added.

The most photogenic fumarole, as for me, next to the mud bath. I don’t know how harmful it is to breathe such sulfuric vapor, but, in any case, it’s very disgusting)

And shooting is also not easy. In a steam cloud, the lens instantly fogs up. And while you wipe it, a new cloud flies)

For a couple of moments the cloud dispersed and a view of the dirty river and the fumaroles above it opened. Probably the most impressive sight I've seen.

A bunch of fumaroles right on the riverbank. On the other side some guys were swarming, taking samples from the mud bath. Or maybe they got mud into the bathroom)

Would you like to take a bath?) Only after it immediately to the burn center.

We could not stand the sulfuric steam for a long time, and the people began to descend little by little. We went after, slowly looking around and taking epic photos. Already appeared "parking", where our KamAZ stood and a dozen more such rotations. How pleasant it was to breathe almost clean air. Almost, because sulfur was felt here too)

But the beauty of Mutnovsky did not end there. The most beautiful canyon is just a couple of kilometers from the start of the climb to the fumaroles. In the morning, clouds walked along the canyon - it was very beautiful. On multi-colored slopes, water fell to the glacier at the bottom of the gorge.

And a huge waterfall fell off a cliff right in front of our eyes. Mutnovsky volcano is just visible behind it. It seems to me that this is the most epic spectacle in Kamchatka. Everything in it - an active volcano, severe weather and stormy streams. There is not enough bear)

The waterfall is larger. See a couple of dots on the left? Here you have people to estimate the size of the waterfall)

Panorama of the gorge with a waterfall. The crater of the volcano itself is hiding in the clouds.

This is how the gorge looks from the side of the foot of the volcano. A car is visible on the hill - from somewhere we shot a waterfall.

By the end of the day, the volcano finally covered with clouds, and most likely it began to rain. And we managed to leave for the camp, a delicious dinner and all that)
