Milan street under the dome, from the grandeur and beauty of which the heartbeats

An amazing design - Victor Emmanuel II Gallery under a glass dome - connects the two most famous sights of Milan and impresses with its scale, luxury and beauty.

This passage is a street with double arches and columns, along which you can go from the square where the Cathedral of Milan is located, to the square where the La Scala Opera House is located.

Today, the gallery of Victor Emanuel II can be called a full-fledged city attraction, which travelers liked a lot.

Initially, the idea of covered passages with shops arose in a completely different country - in France - back in 1798, when Passage du Caire appeared there. Thanks to the roof and walls, people walking along this street were protected from the weather, wind, noise and dirt and could comfortably walk along it, like in a regular shopping center.

Giuseppe Mengoni began to design the passage in Milan in 1865, and in 1877 the structure was completely built. The gallery received its name in honor of the king of the country, Victor Emanuel II.

The huge Gothic cathedral was created over almost six centuries. This magnificent piece of architecture is dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and is currently the seat of the Archbishop of Milan.

The most famous opera house of La Scala appeared in 1778. World-famous celebrities appear in its walls, it can rightfully be called a real symbol of the opera.

For stores located inside the gallery, there are rules for design. So, for example, on each sign letters should have a golden color and be located only on a black background.

Most of them are dominated by many stores of world famous brands such as Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, Massimo Dutti, etc.

In the passage there are four floors of various shops, bars and restaurants.

Among them are the oldest. One of these places is the historic Biffy Cafe. In 1867, it was founded by royal chef Paolo Biffy. It was here that the first electric light appeared in all of Milan.

One cannot but mention the popular mosaic depicting a bull, which is located in the center of the gallery. There is a tradition: if you step on the genitals of this animal with your right foot and turn three times, then luck awaits you. The visitors were so fond of the original custom that a pretty hole had already been worn in the place of the bull’s genitals in the mosaic.
