Like a Kaleidoscope: Amazing Close-ups of Butterfly Wings

Butterflies are undoubtedly the most beautiful insects. However, from such an angle as the photographer Jake Mosher, no one has looked at them yet: he is making macro photographs of butterfly wings. Of course, scientists probably studied them for a long time, but Mosher turned the beauty of their wings into real art: it's hard to believe that these photos are not a picture of any artist.

The photographer takes dozens of shots of the wings of one insect, and then imposes them on top of each other. It’s already difficult to recognize a butterfly in these frames, the image is more like patterns in a kaleidoscope, but there is no magic here. Moreover, Mosher does not process his work and does not add colors to them, showing that they are already beautiful. Deforestation, urban sprawl, pesticides, climate change lead to the disappearance of these wonderful creatures. And although not everyone can appreciate the role of butterflies in nature, their loss will be irreversible.
