Why is the square platform built on the Icelandic lighthouse Tridrangar

In order to build this amazing lighthouse off the coast of Iceland, climbers and builders had to show all their professional skills. After all, even getting to the top of this grand rock proved to be very difficult, not to mention all the other stages of construction work. But the lighthouse in this dangerous place was vital, so the builders had to overcome all difficulties and create a completely amazing lighthouse called Tridrangar.

The sea near the Icelandic coast is characterized by frequent gales and rapid weather changes. Due to the proximity of the Arctic and its influence, the situation at sea can change instantly, thereby making navigation difficult. But the weather is not the worst thing that awaits trial on the way to Iceland. To the south of the island is the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago. These are small rocky islands, which for the most part are completely deserted. Here on one of these rocks in the 30s of the last century a lighthouse was built.

Tridrangar, towering on a sheer cliff about 40 meters high, seems completely inaccessible. Nevertheless, here for several decades there lived rangers who in turn were engaged in maintenance of the lighthouse.

Alas, today such a rare profession is gradually becoming a thing of the past. Those who would like to spend some time in such an amazing place, of course, would have been found, but because of the inaccessibility and high cost of delivery to the rock, it was decided to transfer the lighthouse to offline mode. Today, an automatic system is operating here, giving signals on a schedule, to check which engineers sometimes come here. You can get to this magnificent rock only by helicopter. Therefore, a special helipad is equipped in front of the lighthouse.
