Bridge Oliveira - a unique construction of the Brazilian São Paulo

Original, interesting from a historical or technical point of view, bridges are a kind of hallmark of any city. And the Oliveira Bridge, built in Brazilian São Paulo, was no exception. In addition to the fantastic appearance, this building also has unique engineering parameters.

The Oliveira Bridge in São Paulo was opened in 2008 and immediately became a popular attraction thanks to its original design. It consists of two highways laid across the Pinheiros River, which cross each other, forming a kind of letter X. Two transport tracks are located at heights of 12 and 24 meters. It is the longest curved suspension bridge in the world with a length of 290 meters. Another distinctive feature of the bridge is that its support is in the form of the letter X. The bridge is held by steel cables attached to a concrete support, the total number of which is 144.

In the morning and evening hours, about 5,000 cars per hour cross the bridge, and the construction of Oliveira significantly improved the traffic situation in this part of Sao Paulo.

The construction of the original bridge began in 2006 with the installation of a concrete X-shaped support, to which steel cables and roadway were subsequently attached.

The full name of the bridge is Octavio Frias de Oliveira. The bridge got its name in honor of a prominent public figure - the publisher of a newspaper in São Paulo. Later his name was shortened to Oliveira, and among the inhabitants of São Paulo the name Ponte Estayada, which is translated from Portuguese as "suspension bridge", is common. Designers and architects provided the Oliveira Bridge with original lighting, which varies depending on the time of year or holiday events in the city.
