Ukraine is the cheapest country in Europe: how much does it cost to take a walk in restaurants

Five glasses of beer for one dollar in a good restaurant? This is not the limit. They say that in Ukraine it’s cheap. I'll show you now, so cheap.

And at the same time it’s delicious! In the most “free” country in Europe, even a Russian can go to elite edalny at least three times a day.
I ate and drank for everyone. Not forgetting to photograph food and price tags.

I do not live in poverty, but when traveling I eat mainly food from supermarkets. Because the daily restaurants just do not get enough. These are those who have a vacation once a year, can afford a gastronomic spree in some resort, but I have it all - workdays. But already in the Ukrainian trip, I was drawn from the heart!

So how much money does it take to feel in Ukraine, if not a king, then an oligarch? Watch the report and count.
I'll start with the Panskaya distillery restaurant in Chernivtsi. A huge establishment with three floors and with several rooms. The place is definitely not easy - not every resident of the city will allow himself a festive dinner here, not like an ordinary dinner. But we went.

As often happens in Ukraine, restaurants themselves make strong tinctures, and here they also brew five types of beer. You can order a “probe” in small glasses of 100 ml. All together half a liter. There is a tasting set (all five varieties) 30 hryvnia, that is 60 rubles or one dollar!

While drinking beer, you can explore the main menu. I show a page with salads, the first and meat dishes, they are usually the most expensive. I will not paint, but to ask the price in Russian rubles, just multiply the cost by two.

This is what the shop’s salad looks like. There are many variations, like Caesar’s, but this one, for my taste, is perfect: cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and cheese - nothing more! 65 hryvnias, 130 rubles, 2 dollars 30 cents!

Dasha ordered a salad with baked salmon and tiger prawns: it costs like three of mine - 220 hryvnias, 440 rubles, 7.8 dollars. On the other hand, here it is the most expensive dish in the category, we give a banal Caesar for this money, and then in the province.

Veal medallions wrapped in bacon with dorblu sauce. It was delicious! 230 hryvnias, 467 rubles, $ 8.2.

Ukrainian classics, dumplings with cherries, in a portion of 250 grams. 49 hryvnias, 99 rubles, $ 1.75. But for some it’s not a dessert, but the main course, you can eat too much!

The four of us went to the Panska Goral, but I only took pictures of our food with the girl. In addition to the above, two half-liter teapots of tea were ordered, a 250-gram board with foreign cheeses, a spinach and salmon quiche, a salad with chicken fillet and porcini mushrooms and hunting meat. All together cost 1234 hryvnia, that is 2500 rubles or 44 US dollars. In Moscow, with this money, you can modestly eat sushi together somewhere in "Tanuki" or "Two sticks."

The same Chernivtsi. The place is simpler, but also far from a canteen, called "Vieux", on the logo of a horse, do not ask why.

"Vieux" is a pub, the menu here fits on one sheet, showing the whole. For some reason I forgot to photograph the draft Guinness for 70 hryvnias (140 rubles, $ 2.5), but then somewhere I even saw 60!

So fed at the bar, I took pepper steak with grilled vegetables. It cost 190 hryvnias, 385 rubles or $ 6.8, a huge plate of baked potatoes another 50 hryvnias (101 rubles, $ 1.8).

Here is our check, again for four they ate the same 1200 hryvnias (with alcohol).

In Ukraine, the smallest banknotes are in use, but coins (less hryvnia) are already rare. But even with this "trifle" you can buy something, for example, travel in a Kiev bus costs 4 hryvnias (8 rubles, $ 0.14 !!!), and in the subway - only 5 hryvnias! In Chernivtsi, of course, there is no subway, but a bus ticket from Chernivtsi to Kiev (road through half the country, 10 hours on the way) will cost 337 hryvnias (683 rubles, 12 bucks).

We turn to cheaper institutions. Here are the prices for desserts in a coffee shop. I remind you that 1 hryvnia is 2 rubles or 0.03 US dollars.

How much does it cost to dine in a cafe-cookery.

We went to the pizzeria: ginger tea, Margarita, cappuccino, two mulled wine and two cocoa with marshmallows - 500 rubles.

Here is another small pizzeria in the provincial city of Lviv region.

The average cost of pizza is 130-140 rubles ($ 2.4), the most expensive one is four cheeses, it will cost 226 rubles (4 usd).

Pizza itself looks like this. Yes, not Italian, but they do it themselves in the oven. Well, what did you want for 63 hryvnias! It was, by the way, delicious.

Regarding cheese, so as not to get up twice. In the cheese boutique Cheese Kingdom (only expensive imported cheeses) bought their four cheeses plus a knife and a bottle of Argentinean chardonnay. All together cost 1200 rubles (22 dollars).

Now about sushi. Japanese cuisine is almost as popular as in Russia - breakout establishments. I won’t say what good / bad / cheap / expensive, but there were several, the prices were about the same, sushi for three with a minus or four with a plus (here I am picky, after Japan and China there are few places to please).

Eating sushi in Ukraine is more expensive than having lunch with steak and wine, but compared to Moscow prices, it's still cheap. That in the photo, we ordered together and ate. The final bill is 664 hryvnias, that is 1358 rubles or 24 bucks.

And finally, the winner of my personal rating, a place where we both could have a hearty lunch at the price of a business lunch for one in Moscow.

This is the "Gastrocafe" in Krivoy Rog. Everything here, as hipsters love, is an interior with a high content of comfort, an open kitchen, a menu that fits on one cardboard.

You should no longer be shocked by prices, but just in case, I’ll add, this is not a daily offer or a business lunch, it’s always here. And this institution is not the lowest price category, but according to reviews, it is among the top ten in the city.

He took hummus with pita and egg.

Chateaubrian meat.

And cheesecakes and tomato soup for Dasha.

Three hundred and thirteen hryvnia. Six hundred and forty rubles. Eleven dollars.

All this is not just cheap, but very cheap. You will not find such prices anywhere else in Europe (I am silent about the European Union, I generally speak about European countries), and even in relatively budgetary Belarus you will not be able to go to restaurants and taverns every day without a serious threat to your wallet. In Ukraine, this is real.

Although, of course, I have to say that it’s cheap for us, but not so much for them. The average salary in the country is 7400 hryvnias (15200 rubles / 267 dollars), and the minimum pension in Ukraine is only 1300 hryvnias (2700 rubles or $ 47).
